Jointly winning the first Nobel prize for Economics with Ragnar Frisch for his first ever macro-economic model in 1969 and being the brother of fellow Nobel prize-winner Nikolaas Tinbergen.
Under supervision of Ehrenfest, and in the presence of Einstein, Lorentz, he completed his dissertation in 1929.
