Prior to the seminar, there will be a PhD-seminar on the topic of fiscal State aid for PhD researchers from the Netherlands and abroad.
On Thursday, 22 September 2011, 11am-1pm, a lunch meeting (in Dutch) will be organised related to the Faculty’s profile area concerning the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). The discussions during the meeting will focus on the research of three PhD candidates from Leiden University concerning the development of the ECHR and (the improvement of) the practice of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).
‘Does a formal hierarchy between legal systems still exist?’ and ‘Is the difference between public and private law still relevant?’ Prof. Walter van Gerven (former Advocate-General at the European Court of Justice) and Prof. Steven Lierman (legal secretary at the Court of Cassation) will discuss these questions.
